About

Background

In our project WISE-AI we will discover the benefit of AI to achieve the SDG goals through the youth lense and particularly through young women in order to bridge the gap between women’s education on AI and increase their employability. AI is believed by many to be the future of the way we live. With this demand comes the need for a highly-skilled and dedicated workforce. However, currently only 22% of AI employees globally are female, leaving a gender and skills gap which is all too common in tech sectors. Increasing the representation of women in critical technical AI roles takes more than just recruiting efforts—it starts with fostering an inclusive culture and improving access and opportunity for growth and advancement. The EU Youth Strategy is founded on active participation and equal opportunities for young people in the EU7. It seeks to promote social and civic engagement and ensure that all young individuals have the necessary resources to participate in society. These objectives are embodied in four goals: enabling young people to take charge of their own lives, equipping them with resources to become active citizens, improving policy decisions for their benefit in all sectors, and eliminating youth poverty and discrimination. These goals are guided by five principles, which are equality and non-discrimination, inclusion, participation, multi-level dimensions, and a dual approach that involves mainstreaming initiatives across policy areas and specific initiatives in the youth sector.

In our project we aim to focus at:
SDG 5: GENDER EQUALITY
SDG 6: CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
SDG 7: AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
SDG 13: CLIMATE ACTION
SDG 17: PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS
AIM

This project aims to develop an innovative approach, combining training with educational play, so as to:

  •  help young women explore their entrepreneurship skills and capabilities relating to the field of AI and bridge the gap of inclusion and equality;
  • encourage the innovation and sustainability of the SDG goals, based on a fun, engaging, and positive game environment.
RESULTS

  • A knowledge portal with targeted lesson plans in the field of AI hosted in the project’s website.
  • A Minecraft game that will act as a fun and engaging way for young women to test their knowledge on AI by focusing on the SDG goals.
TARGET GROUP

  • Young women (15-29 years old), who will be given the opportunity to learn about AI and how to tackle the SDG goals challenged through an interactive Minecraft game
  • Youth organizations and educators, who will be able to exchange educational and training approaches with their counterparts, with a view to help young women in the field of computer science and machine learning for the greater good of achieving the SDG goals.
